Why the Empow®ment
Zone?
Parents, do you know that within certain communities the
school day does not end when the final bell sounds? Instead, many children attend after-school academic academies where they
are placed into small, structured peer groups and taught to focus. Extending the learning environment beyond the traditional
classroom experience is a cultural expectation. In such settings, basic skills are enhanced, advanced educational concepts
are introduced and quickly mastered.
Hence the Empow-r-ment Zone (EZ)...
To
help overcome disparities in educational environments, counteract the inadequacies of school district resources, and to attack
the educational crisis plaguing our communities, the Empow®ment Zone After School Program was developed.
At the EZ we FOCUS on increasing our participants...
- Time on task
- Ability to comprehend basic as well as advanced educational concepts
- Capacity to read, write and compute above grade level,
- Ability to understand the importance of efficiency, and
- Aptitude for competing within the mainstream educational environment.
At the EZ we understand
that despite the best intentions and academic preperation a parent may have, assisting with their own children's
homework and/or projects can be a daunting and stressful task.
“BACK TO BASICS”
By returning to the basics of teaching and learning (i.e.
Reading + Writing + Math + Repetition), the EZ
utilizes Old School techniques to foster academic success in school age children.
The EZ’s Mission is to cultivate academic achievement
in school age children through a repetitive focus on Reading, Writing, and Mathematics instruction.
